Stakeholders Webinar: Review of  the “Good Nutrition Starts with Me” Youth Initiative (Phase 1) and the Way Forward (Phase 2).

BACKGROUND

The “Good Nutrition Starts with Me” Youth Initiative was rolled out from September 2023 to November 2024 with the support of a grant from the Rockefeller Foundation. Three countries were selected: Cameroon, The Gambia, and Ghana, with AfriCAN working through their respective nutrition coordinating bodies as entry points for all activities. 

More than 100 youth and media practitioners participated and completed a training on the following topics:

  1. Understanding and promoting a healthy diet (Basic nutrition)
  2. Malnutrition Types, Causes, and Consequences
  3. Understanding nutrition throughout the life cycle
  4. Prevention and management of diet, related NCDs
  5. Production, Preservation, and Processing
  6. Agriculture, Nutrition, and Climate Change
  7. Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) and Nutrition

Following the training, a voluntary Commitment Card detailing actions to improve individual, household, and community nutrition security practices was signed by almost all the participants.

Phase 1 of the initiative has now been completed, and this stakeholders’ webinar was held to:

  1. Review Phase 1 including the training processes and and the commitments made.  
  2. Provide inputs and shape Phase 2 of the initiative focusing onActions, Expansion, Sustainability
