Board Director
With over 30 years of international experience, Isatou Jallow is a renowned global nutrition expert and gender advocate dedicated to advancing nutrition and women's empowerment across Africa and beyond. She is the Executive Director of AfriCAN; Africa Catalyzing Action for Nutrition, where she leads innovative, multisectoral efforts to position nutrition at the heart of sustainable development. Isatou has held senior leadership roles at the World Food Programme (WFP), including Director of Women, Children and Gender, and served as Special Advisor on Nutrition and HIV/AIDS. She was the Executive Director of The Gambia National Nutrition Agency (NaNA) and served as Senior Nutrition and Partnership Advisor at the NEPAD Agency. Her strategic insights have shaped continental policies, and she has advised numerous governments, UN agencies, and international institutions on nutrition and gender equity. Currently, she sits on multiple global boards, including the CGIAR System Management Board, ICARS (The International Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions), and the Feed the Future Food Systems for Nutrition Innovation Lab. A graduate of the University of Oslo, she holds both a Bachelor & and a master’s degree in human Nutrition. Isatou is known for her exceptional ability to mobilize cross-sectoral partnerships, build high-impact teams, and drive transformational change in food systems. She continues to be a powerful voice for integrating gender and nutrition into all levels of development planning and implementation.
