Youth as Catalyst for Community Nutrition Transformation
The “Good Nutrition Starts with Me” initiative marked a transformative
introduction to structured nutrition education for many young people.
Youth participants emerged as confident advocates for good nutrition including healthy diets, exclusive breastfeeding,
sanitary practices among others.
Media practitioners played a vital role as trusted gatekeepers of information, using radio
programs and published content to simplify nutrition messages and link them to broader
themes such as hygiene, climate resilience, and food systems. With full commitment from all
participants, The Gambia demonstrated strong ownership and enthusiasm, showcasing how
youth-led action, supported by media, can accelerate nutrition literacy nationwide.
