The objective of Strategic Pillar 5 is to drive advocacy and communication efforts that influence policy change and promote AfriCAN’s mission at every level. This pillar aims to bridge the gap between political will, policy, and tangible community action through targeted strategies.

AfriCAN’s call for action emphasizes the importance of advocacy at regional, national, subnational, and community levels to promote the use of the continent’s available resources. This is essential to ensure that the vision of a healthy and well-nourished Africa can be realized.

Evidence-based advocacy can contribute to AfriCAN’s goal of nurturing nutrition-literate communities equipped with the knowledge, skills, and motivation to improve their nutrition situation, both individually and collectively. AfriCAN will advocate for the development of a clear nutrition narrative that characterizes the triple burden of malnutrition in a way that demystifies jargon, making it easier for stakeholders to understand and take action relevant to their mandates and responsibilities.

AfriCAN believes that coordinated multisectoral action is key to addressing the continent’s triple burden of malnutrition. Its entry point into countries will be through National Multi-stakeholder Nutrition Coordinating Bodies. AfriCAN pledges to support these national bodies in their efforts to place and sustain nutrition on the national development agenda, foster cohesive and sustained multi-stakeholder engagement, and promote increased domestic investment in nutrition by national governments, private sectors, and civil society.
