Strategic Pillar 1 focuses on capacity enhancement as a foundational approach to improving nutrition outcomes across communities.
The primary objective is to engage and strengthen the capacities of community-based stakeholders and organizations that are critical to nutrition outcomes. By doing so, the aim is to empower communities to take an active role in addressing their own nutritional well-being.
AfriCAN recognizes that the continent’s greatest asset for ensuring healthy and well-nourished populations is its people. Although there are existing capacities at various levels, they remain insufficient for sustained progress. Therefore, AfriCAN emphasizes the necessity of enhancing these capacities to improve the continent’s ability to tackle nutritional challenges effectively.
While there has been considerable political will and several commitments to address hunger and malnutrition, there is still a gap in translating these intentions into concrete actions, particularly at community levels. AfriCAN is dedicated to bridging this gap and nurturing the next generation of nutrition leaders by harnessing the potential of the youth, improving their understanding of current nutrition challenges, and empowering them to play an active role in improving the situation, starting with themselves.

AfriCAN stands as a continent-wide, African-led organization dedicated to advancing nutrition throughout Africa. The group comprises a diverse and multidisciplinary team of committed individuals, all united by a shared vision: fostering a healthy and well-nourished continent.
